The Music Man John Petrucci Ball Family Reserve (BFR) model is designed to be a tonally-richer version of the signature JP6 guitar. A mahogany body provides a warm and resonant core tonality, enhanced by the koa top for bright overtones with increased harmonic content. A select mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard gives a fast note-attack needed for complex playing styles with a nuanced response.

Fast Playability

The John Petrucci BFR features a flat ebony fingerboard with a 15'' radius for excellent balance when playing across the strings. The fingerboard is mounted with 24 high-profile frets which allow easy string-bends, constructed from stainless-steel for increased durability, brightness and sustain. The John Petrucci BFR's body has deep cutaways so you'll have no barriers when reaching the top frets for high-range soloing. A sculpted neck joint also gives easy access to the top of the neck.

DiMarzio Humbuckers

John Petrucci's signature DiMarzio LiquiFire and Crunch Lab pickups provide a versatile range of tones, enhanced by the 3-way pickup selector and tone control coil-split switch. The Crunch Lab bridge humbucker was developed for Dream Theater's 10th studio album, "Black Clouds and Silver Linings". If delivers a thick tone that never becomes muddy when playing complex chords and riffs. The lows and mids are open-sounding, while the highs have excellent depth for a modern and versatile sound. The LiquiFire neck pickup creates a singing tone for smooth lead playing, along with a tight bass response and focussed voice - perfect for overdriven solos and clean chordal playing.

Piezo Tones and Stable Hardware

The John Petrucci BFR features a custom floating bridge which complements the Schaller locking tuners to create a smooth tremolo action with excellent tuning stability. The bridge is loaded with a piezo pickup, so you can access incredibly realistic acoustic guitar tones at the flick of a switch. The guitar features dual outputs and a 3-way piezo/magnetic selector, letting you send the magnetic and piezo pickups out of the guitar independently or blended. One Petrucci trick is to blend the piezo pickup with a clean magnetic pickup tone for a 3-dimensional sound with clarity and bell-like overtones.

About John Petrucci

John Petrucci is best known as the guitarist, producer, lyricist and founding member of the successful progressive metal band Dream Theater. John is also known as a member of Liquid Tension Experiment as well as a solo player and educator. Dream Theater are known globally for their technically challenging styles of music, taking inspiration from diverse progressive rock bands and many other genres. They record and tour the world year after year, and Petrucci has long-relied on Music Man guitars to meet his highly demanding professional requirements.
