The Fender Rhodes was discontinued due to shifting market trends and financial challenges. By the 1980s, digital synthesizers began dominating the music scene, reducing demand for electric pianos. Manufacturing costs also contributed to the decision to halt production. Whilst the Fender version has been discontinued, its legacy lives on with the release of the Rhodes MK8 which is handmade in Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Rhodes is no longer owned by Fender. The brand underwent various ownership changes after its initial production under Fender. It is now independently owned and continues to produce high-quality instruments that honour Harold Rhodes' legacy.
