Erica Synths Steampipe

The Erica Synths Steampipe is a unique physical modeling synthesizer that achieves sound creation by closely mimicking the way wind instruments operate. Dutch company 112.dB developed the Steampipe in partnership with the aim of producing an extraordinary musical instrument that can generate a wide range of soundscapes, from wind instruments to strings, pipe organs, effects, and beyond. The synthesizer has three essential sections - STEAM, PIPE, and REVERBERATOR, which are instrumental in creating sounds with fantastic depth and dimension.

The STEAM section, which represents the lungs and mouth of a musician, consists of a generator that produces the flow of "steam" or air. The envelope determines the amount of force with which the steam is blown out, while the DC/Noise creates the sound of blowing out. One interesting feature of the Steampipe is that the DC/Noise can be adjusted or replaced by an external audio source. The PIPE section can be compared to a flute, where the tune is formed, and the push-in feedback bounces the steam to produce the tone. The delay box subsection alters the flute's tuning and shape.

Add ambiance and depth to the sound using the REVERBARTOR, giving it a sense of space. The Steampipe is geared towards wind MIDI controllers but is also compatible with a MIDI keyboard. Overall, the Steampipe is perfect for producing organic and rich overtones and comes with awesome presets to create a range of sounds - from wispy clouds to industrial horns which can be used to produce massive, otherworldly ambiences.
