Comprehensive distortion module
The structure of Devastator allows for a wide range of tonal shaping options through the four sections of the plug-in including dynamics flattener, diode-clipper distortion module, three multi-mode filters and an output signal limiter. With this range of flexibility, Devastator offers nine different distortion topology combinations to achieve a wide spectrum of distortion characteristics per band.
Thanks to the flexible signal routing, the analog-style filters can be used before, after or even alongside the diode-clipping circuit, opening new tonal palettes and sonic possibilities than ever before possible with distortion plug-ins.
Analog-style filters
Committed to bringing you the best sound manipulation possible, the filters inside Devastator 2 are not traditional peak-EQ types but instead they are analog-modelled filters like you would expect to find on boutique hardware synthesisers. Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and band-reject filters are all included with adjustable resonances and frequency cutoff parameters, giving you a completely authentic and unique frequency separation. The analog-style colouration of the filters are the obvious choice for a distortion unit as they offer a more aggressive character, perfect for adding harmonics and grit to transform your tracks.
Versatile and advanced
Multi-band distortion is a widely applicable effect that can be used to enhance almost any element of your mix. The ability to distort different regions of the frequency spectrum individually with flexible control over each means that you can tailor your distortion sound to your instrument to perfection. With Devastator 2, you can get any kind of sound from full-blown guitar fuzz, analog amplifier and speaker emulations, precise mid-range synth distortion and much more.
Not limited to over-the-top distortion, Devastator 2 has a secret weapon hidden in the Shaper section with the single-dial input compressor named 'Dynamics'. With this, you can subtly increase the punch and attack from any sound source through light compression, helping you to increase the impact of your hard-hitting drums or percussion. Additionally, by reducing the preamp gain and increasing the threshold, you can achieve warm and analog-style tones without the introduction of any distortion at all.
A flexible signal routing matrix ensures that you have complete control over the signal path of Devastator 2, allowing you to seamlessly alter the tone and response in your distortion character. Presented in a simple and easy to read line-drawing, you can alter the flow of your signal path meaning you don't need to stick to any rigid rules, you can make your own!
