Sounds from the future
Branching out into the unknown, Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix sought to create a fully-featured hybrid synth collection, not based on traditional oscillators but instead combining orchestral, electronic layers and cinematic FX for a truly modern, otherworldly sound palette. Taking advantage of what the new OPUS sound engine has to offer, Phoenix and Rogers were able to meticulously capture the sounds of a myriad of vintage and modern synths, taking the stellar sounds they wanted and leaving the filler. Using a premium-quality, state-of-the-art signal chain, Forbidden Planet is comfortably one of the most authentic and fattest analog-sounding libraries on this planet or the next without the unwanted sterile sound of computer-generated oscillators.
A hybrid instrument built for sonic exploration
Traversing the vastness of what Forbidden Planet can offer, a central XY pad lets you dynamically morph your sound in real-time. This Orbital Control lets you explore different textures and tonalities with a smooth responsive, shifting both timbre and frequency content. Morphing along the X-axis blends between two contrastic analog, acoustic, synthetic and cinematic sound effects while moving along the Y-axis adjust the filter frequency to create powerful risers and build-ups. Of course this parameter can be mapped to your DAW or hosts automation parameters for a dynamic and evolving sound that moves with your composition.
Insane filter modulation
The Orbital XY control isn't the only way to add movement and dynamism to your sound. Forbidden Planet features a dedicated filter section, enabling you to modulate your filter with unrestricted control. Controls include the Mod Envelope which allows you to add ADSR-style envelope generation onto the filter cut-off frequency to automate movement with each new note played. You can even create gated rhythms with the Step LFO as the sequencer modulates the filter frequency cut-off above a certain threshold.
Powerful arpeggiators
Perfect for tension-building soundscapes set over distant lands, EastWest have included a flexible arpeggiator within Forbidden Planet to create staccato and legato patterns even with portamento or glide. Match rhythmic ostinato to the movement of your on-screen cue or create glitch-inspired desynchronized movements by adjusting the speed of each sequencer.
What's included
A total of 654 instruments provide 54GB of samples across multiple instruments and effects types including arpeggiator, bass, drones, FX, leads, pads and polysynths. This diverse catalogue of instruments makes Forbidden Planet the perfect solution for contemporary composers looking for cinematic landscapes for feature-length film scores or for producers looking to add sound design elements to their EDM, hip-hop or pop productions.
Explore complex, polyrhythmic staccato combinations with the dual arpeggiator structure. Synch them together or manually adjust the speed to create unbalanced, glitchy rhythms that's perfect for otherworldly staccato for tension-building. Forbidden Planet provides you with many different bass sounds but the magic lies in the ability to layer FX pedal tones, contrastic crossfades and gritty overtones to craft unique and powerful bass for any production.
A staple in cinematic scoring, Forbidden Planet encompasses a myriad of drone tones to add atmosphere to your composition. Delivering organic and futuristic drones can be used to enhance an already existing environment or to be the focal point of your composition. Defying classification, EastWest Forbidden Planet encompasses several unique FX that have been captured from unlikely sources including acoustic instruments, voices and a plethora of synthesized sources to add the final touches to your soundtrack. Whether it's tension, noise or impactful one-shots, there's an FX for every occasion.
Although currently wildly popular, sawtooth leads are highly-restrictive in their range. This sound dates your production and won't help you stand out from other composers. Because of this, Forbidden Planet provides the foundation to create searing leads along with a myriad of different editing and tweaking parameters to craft adaptive leads to pop out of the mix.
Another staple in modern cinematic composition, Fobidden Planet employs numerous pad sounds to add the chord structure to build your track around. Morphing between pad sounds in real-time for dynamic and evolving tones is made easy with the included XP pad, shifting from gritty to smooth seamlessly. Lastly, a collection of presets that don't fit into any one category can be found in the Poly Synth folder. Perfect for experimentation and finding a sonic signature for your productions, the Poly Synth sounds are entirely customisable to your requirements.
