Inspiring reverb algorithms
Borealis offers a diverse array of 14 reverb algorithms, inspired by guitar pedals and Eurorack effects. These include convolution reverbs sampled from epic spaces like a lush church or the inside of a piano, reactive algorithmic reverbs that shimmer to infinity, and vintage modulated delay networks. For example, 'Cavern' delivers dark, dreamy reflections with arrhythmic echoes, while 'Driven' provides multiband space with adjustable grit. 'Echo Hall' shifts rooms with syncable delay, and 'Endless' offers cosmic reflections for vast sonic explorations.
Each algorithm is designed to inspire, from the 'Granular' ambient experimental reverb to the 'Orbital' vintage lush chorused bliss. 'Ping Pong' features diffused echoes, 'Studio' offers resonances from the RCA Victor Studio in Montreal, and 'Silo' creates deep metallic sonorities. 'Piano' provides warm sympathetic resonances, 'Sanctuary' bright modulating reflections, 'Spring' timeless resonance, and 'Church' beautiful timbres from Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church in Montreal.
Sonic transformations
Borealis goes beyond traditional reverb plugins by dynamically responding to your playing. This interaction fosters an inspiring dialogue between input and output. The plugin's interface features the X, Y, & Z Perform Animations as the main control screen, allowing you to focus on the sound. For those who like to tweak, a playground of deep control is available, letting you build your dream performance effect.
The extensive modulation capabilities include three modulators and an envelope follower. The modulators offer Sine, Triangle, Square, Random, Stepped, and custom-drawn shapes, creating intricate movement. The envelope follower derives control signals from your input, enabling responsive performances with adjustable settings. Borealis allows you to modulate modulators with each other and the envelope follower, creating a network of performable sound.
Dynamic morphing rooms
Borealis's unique modulation capabilities set it apart. With three modulators and an envelope follower, it offers a dynamic approach to sound design. The modulators, including various waveform shapes and custom-drawn options, create intricate movements, while the envelope follower adjusts settings based on your input. This setup allows for a highly responsive and interactive performance, letting you explore new sonic territories.
The ability to modulate modulators with each other and with the envelope follower adds depth to your sound, making Borealis feel like a living, breathing organism. This feature encourages creative exploration, allowing you to create evolving and complex reverbs that respond to your playing style.
Mastering-grade limiter and EQ
As the finishing touch, Borealis includes a powerful mastering section. This section features a parametric equalizer and a dual-mode limiter, with modern and vintage flavours. The modern limiter offers transparent IIR look-ahead limiting, while the vintage limiter emulates the classic 1176 Peak Limiter. This allows you to shape and 'glue' both dry and wet signals, perfecting your overall sound.
With Borealis, you have a playground designed to inspire and enhance your creative process. Its expansive sound, advanced modulators, and user-friendly interface transform your approach to reverb design, making it an essential tool for musicians and sound designers alike.
