Here's what you'll learn
Jam-packed with eight modules, you will come away knowing how to fix your live sound forever.
- Module 1 - Introduction: Introduction to what a Live Sound System is made up of and how it all works together under the skilled operation of an audio engineer. With this Introductory Module, you'll get a clear map of the road ahead.
- Module 2 - Sound theory: This module will help you to understand musical terms in much greater detail, going into what a dB is, what SPL is and what scaled dB ratings are including FS and u/v/V modes. In addition, this will go into detail on understanding the frequency spectrum and the wavelengths of frequency bands as well as complex terms including phase and the physics of sound.
- Module 3 - The equipment: This will give you a greater understanding of all the equipment that you will need and what their function is. Here, it will go into detail on snakes, mixing consoles, amplifiers, speakers, monitors, effects, microphones, wireless systems and much more.
- Module 4 - Setting it all up: Armed with the knowledge of what pieces of equipment you need, this module will guide you through how each piece of equipment needs to be set up. This goes over both analog and digital equipment and includes how to set up a stage ready for a gig.
- Module 5 - Mixing consoles: Every mixing console is different so this module gives you an outline of how to operate any digital or analog mixer. This module will provide you with an overview of what mixing consoles can do, how to route input channels, set up AUX sends, using FX, creating monitor mixes and subgroups.
- Module 6 - Troubleshooting: Things can go wrong in the live sound world. This module will outline what potential problems you may run into and how to alleviate these. This module will outline signal flow, ensuring you know where in the signal chain your issue may be. In addition, you will be taught line checks, feedback issues and how to solve them, and how to set up noise gates and gain stages for optimum stage and speaker levels.
- Module 7 - Mixing: Run a show with David Willis with PIP graphics, showing exactly what is being done to each channel. This module will go over blending levels, compression, using EQ, controlling dynamics, adding noise gates and using FX.
- Module 8 - Running the show: Gain vital real-world experience on running a show and watch as the knowledge from your troubleshooting section is put to use.
- Module 9 - Recording and live streaming: If your position includes capturing source multi-tracks or simple 2-track stereo files, this module goes through everything you need to either record your live event or to stream it live to broadcast apps like Facebook.
