The Silverstein Alta Ambipoly Oboe Reed combines the best features of both synthetic and cane reeds. Ideal for ensemble and solo performers, this reed matches the performance of a classic cane reed, using materials updated for the 21st century. A member of Silverstein's second generation of synthetic reeds, it is made with Ambipolymer - a material with the authenticity of cane but the benefits of a highly engineered synthetic material.
This reed grants effortless playability, with a rapid response and highly secure articulation. The harmonic-rich sound is ideal for blending with other instruments, and you'll find plenty of tonal mobility at all points of the dynamic range. For playing modern repertoire and solo works, the altissimo register is crystal-clear whilst intonation all over the range of the instrument is easy to control.

Silverstein's second generation of synthetic reeds are made with Ambipolymer - a special artificial material which has been invented specifically for use in reeds. Ambipolymer reeds behave incredibly similarly to cane - with an even sound quality across all registers and powerful projection with full harmonics. They retain moisture for upwards of five hours from a 30 second wet, and adjust to the shape of your embouchure just like a cane reed.
All Silverstein Ambipoly reeds are formed using precision moulding technology, ensuring absolute consistency. Gone are the days where you have to try several reeds of the exact same strength just to find the right one for you. The consistency of these reeds also guarantees a long life, with absolutely zero splintering or micro-cracks. And if you ever want to sharpen up the performance of your reed, Ambipoly reeds can be sanded, clipped, and generally adjusted with all of the reed tools you would use on cane.
